lazy food
I created Illustrations and animations in collaboration with Dreamers to form the basis of Lazy Food's brand design.
Lazy Food's founder approached us at Dreamers wanting a visual brand design for their line of instant meal pouches. He was excited about the possibility of including illustrations of the ingredients, so Rosalba and I cooked up a cute cast of characters and brought them to life!
A lineart illustration of a cooking pot in white with a yellow handle, full of yelllow spaghetti. The pot has stick figure legs and a happy face. It sits next to text that says lazy food
I started by designing the main character: a little spaghetti pot. Most of the dishes are noodle-based and designed to be cooked with just one pot (hence the name lazy food) so it felt right to use a cooking pot for the main character. I wanted the pot to look happy and cute but also relaxed.
a line drawing illustration of three cooking pot cartoon-like characters with black lines, white cooking pot bodies and yellow handles. Two pots have yellow spaghetti and the pot in the middle has boiling water inside.
I created a few variations on the lazy pot, including one with boiling water. At this point I also started working on animated loops we could include in the branding to make the characters even more engaging.
A simple animated gif with black lines and solid color fills, of a white cooking pot with a yellow handle, black stick figure legs and a simple face. Yellow spaghetti is inside the pot. The pot is walking and the spaghetti bounces up and down as it walks. There is a little green leaf sitting on the handle that bounces up and down as well.
Once the client was happy with these entries I could start illustrating the various ingredients that would be incorporated into the branding.
an illustration in a line drawing style showing three objects on a white background. On the left is a green broccoli stalk, in the ceenter is a line drawing of tomato slices with a white fill, and on the right is a line drawing of a traditional chianti wine bottlean illustration in a line drawing style showing green peas with cartoon faces and stick figure legs. On the right are four cartoon green peas with eyes and legs looking in different directions, on the left are a bunch of green peas with little eyes looking around
The illustrations made their way onto the initial packaging design and are incorporated into the website and instructions. The current packaging focuses on photos of the dishes but you can still see my original illustrations on the website!
an animated gif of three beige squares with animated line drawings and big numbers. The numbers are 01, 02, 03 in bright green. The line drawings are black and white drawings of pasta ingredients, cooking pots, and a pasta dish in a bowl showing the process of preparing and eating the pasta dish.A bright magenta background with a mockup of two phones showing a website design for lazyfoodco.com
